As one of the Valley’s respected plastic surgeons, Dr Barry Fernando has accumulated a long list of accomplishments, awards and accolades.  Dr. Fernando completed his undergraduate education at the University of Arizona in 1977, graduating Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa, with a major in Chemistry and a double minor in Mathematics and Physics. He finished medical school at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Dr. Fernando completed a 5 year general surgery residency at The Phoenix Integrated Surgical Residency, before finishing his plastic surgery residency at the prestigious Barnes Hospital/Washington University, in Saint Louis, Missouri. While in training, he published multiple articles in peer-reviewed journals, and was a co-author of several book chapters in a major plastic surgery publication.

Dr. Fernando entered private practice in Phoenix, Arizona in 1988. He currently specializes in aesthetic surgery and reconstructive surgery of the breast. On multiple occasions, he has been named Phoenix Magazine’s “Top Doctor” by a vote of his peers.

Dr. Fernando has also been actively involved in medical education and training through his medical society, The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). He has previously been a member of their Technology Committee and Patient Safety Committee.

Barry Fernando MD is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member in good standing of The American Society of Plastic Surgery and The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.


Dr Fernando is a Co- Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Anzu®, and Chief Executive Officer of Ronan Solutions, software companies that develop technology solutions for medical education and medical big data. In 2016, at the ASAPS national meeting, he was given a Special Merit Award by the society for his work on integrating technology into medical education. This award was given to the single individual who did the most for the organization during that year.  He was also instrumental in the conceptualization, development and delivery of a big data project called The Aesthetic Neural Network for the same society. The launch of this product in April of 2017 was considered an unqualified success by the client.


Dr Barry Fernando is acknowledged as an expert in the field of Sri Lankan art. In 2003, he helped The Phoenix Art Museum organize a landmark exhibition of Sri Lankan art, entitled “Guardian of the Flame – Art of Sri Lanka”. This exhibition, along with a major published catalogue, traveled to multiple venues outside of Phoenix. He has also lectured on this topic at the Phoenix Art Museum and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
