
Dr. Barry Fernando is a longtime Arizona resident. His early years were spent in Tucson, Arizona where where he attended college at the University of Arizona. While there, he majored in Chemistry, with a minor in Mathematics and Physics, and graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
In 1981 he graduated from the University of Arizona College of Medicine and decided on a career in the field of surgery. Dr. Fernando then completed 7 years of post-graduate surgical training, which included a plastic surgery residency at the prestigious Washington University (Barnes Hospital) in Saint Louis. He also received additional training in cosmetic surgery in Miami, Florida with an internationally renowned plastic surgeon.
Dr. Fernando has authored and co-authored multiple textbook chapters and journal articles in several different plastic surgery publications. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member in good standing of the American Society of Plasic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).
Dr. Fernando is also actively involved in the field of Asian art. He has been a guest lecturer at the Los Angeles County Museum (LACMA) and has given numerous presentations on topics related to Asian art to several groups at the Phoenix Art Museum, where he previously served as president of the Asian Arts Council.
He has been in private practice in Phoenix, Arizona since 1988 and has been named a “TOP DOC” by Phoenix Magazine on multiple occasions. His practice encompasses all types of cosmetic surgery, including facelift surgery, eyelid surgery, tummy tuck, breast enhancement and rejuvenation, liposuction, body contouring after weight loss and reconstructive surgery of the breast after mastectomy.
